PSPFormat is a free Photoshop plugin that will allow you to open and save PSP 5-9 format files (including .pspimage, etc.).
PSPFormat has also proved useful in recovering image data from otherwise unopenable PSP files.
Software features of "PSPFormat":
· Supports PSP 5,6,7 versions (.PSP, .JSL, .PFR, .TUB)
· uncompressed, RLE and LZ77 compression formats
· 1, 4, 8 and 24 bit depths (Bitmap, Grey Scale, Indexed and RGB modes)
· supports layer transparency and alpha channels
· reads any single image layer.

Limitations:
· The Photoshop plugin interface only allows access to a single layer, so of PSP files of multiple layers, only one image layer will be read or saved (if there is more than one image layer, you will be asked to choose one).
· Only raster layers are supported; other layer types are ignored.
· Because each image channel is processed in its entirety (rather than in pieces), Photoshop may run out of memory using this plugin with very large images.
